In the design of the new complex, tradition and innovation are two fundamental aspects of the project. On the one hand, the proposal seeks to highlight the long history of the building and of the circus itself within its geographical context, reusing and restoring most of the principal architectural spaces and elements, adapting them to a new use and a new era.
On the other hand, the project is oriented towards the future, integrating a series of new spaces with different configurations and possibilities of use, capable of accommodating living, creation, discussion and performance.
The circus building is not the circus itself. Architecture is not the performance, but the support that allows it to take place, whether in the exceptional moments of performances and events or in the seemingly ordinary routines of everyday life: training days, rehearsals and the management of the complex. Sufficiently neutral, yet appropriately functional, adaptable and pragmatic, the design of the new complex embraces this singular condition of being a container for an exceptional programme, such as a permanent circus embedded in the everyday life of the city.
