Paço d’Arcos is a coastal parish in Oeiras, located at the mouth of the Tagus River. Over time, the seasonal seaside apartments became permanent residences and underwent alterations that distorted their seasonal and summer typology, which the project seeks to recover.
The demolition of the existing enclosed balcony and the redefinition of the external openings through large glazed surfaces ensure spatial continuity between the interior and the exterior, creating a large terrace overlooking the sea.
Inside, the walls were demolished and a new joinery element was designed, allowing each function to be redefined in a free and open manner, creating a single, fluid space.
The experience of entering the house is now exclusively dominated by the presence of the sea. One enters directly into the spacious living area, with the kitchen to the right and the bedroom to the left, designed as an alcove overlooking the sea.
The living room, which extends onto the balcony, is the central space of the entire ensemble, where panels—either timber or glazed—allow its use to be adapted flexibly.
From the balcony, the sea and the river can be seen across a 180° panorama; on clear days, the view extends along the entire coastline as far as Cape Espichel.
